The Vietnam-Germany University (VGU), the first international public university to be founded in Vietnam, will be built on an area of 50 ha in the southern province of Binh Duong with the investment capital of US $180 million.

The final meeting to discuss the detailed plan for the VGU was convened today in Hanoi.

According to the initial estimation made by Germany, the total investment capital for the project is US $300 million. However, the Vietnamese side suggested the fund of US $180 million, not including a sum of VND 150 billion for site clearance.

The Government of Vietnam elected the World Bank as the loan provider for the project because the bank has proved itself a good partner of Vietnam in the field of education, science and technology.

So far, WB has assisted Vietnam to conduct four projects of tertiary education development.

Presiding over the meeting, Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan assigned the Ministry of Education and Training to finalize the plan and be responsible for effective use of loans and the State budget for the project.

The VGU is the first international public university to be founded in Vietnam. The University will receive excellent Vietnamese students who want to study advanced sciences.

About 40 German universities will take part in the project.
