Vietnam wins four golds at international maths competition

Vietnam has won four gold medals at the 58th International Maths Olympiad in Brazil, according to the Ministry of Education and Training.

The ministry said that six Vietnamese pupils attended the contest and all of them had won medals.

Hoang Huu Quoc Huy from Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province; Nguyen Canh Hoa from Phan Boi Chau Gifted High School in Nghe An; Le Quang Dung from Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa Province and Phan Nhat Duy from Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted of Ha Tinh Province won golden medals.

Two others Pham Nam Khanh from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Do Van Quyet from Vinh Phuc Gifted High School were awarded with the silver and bronze medal respectively.

With the result, the Vietnamese team ranked the third among 112 countries and territories participating in the contest, just behind South Korea and China.

The Ministry of Education and Training said it was Vietnam’s best result in the 43 years it has competed in the contest.

Particularly, Hoang Huu Quoc Huy recorded the highest mark in the contest with 35 points along two from Japan and Iran.
