Vietnam wins eight gold medals at maths and science competition

Vietnamese students have won eight gold medals at the 15th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad held in China.

All 23 Vietnamese students participating in the contest were presented with medals, comprising of eight gold, 10 silver and five bronze medals. This was the highest achievement by Vietnamese participants so far in the competition.

The four gold medals in mathematics this year went to Nguyen Dinh Kien from Hong Bang Secondary School, Haiphong City; Tran Bao Duy from Hanoi’s Ngoi Sao Secondary School, and the two Ngo Chi Kien and Trinh Anh Minh from Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

Nguyen Dinh Kien was also presented with Best Theory prize in maths.

The four gold medals in science were awarded to Nguyen Nhat and Phan Vu Nguyen Khai, both from the Hanoi’s Ngoi Sao Secondary School, Dinh Pham Nguyen Hang from Hanoi-Amsterdam School, and Nghiem Xuan Son from Nguyen Truong To Secondary School.

The olympiad is an annual contest for students aged under 13. This year’s event saw the participation of 400 students, divided into 25 teams from 22 countries and territories.

Vietnam will hold it next year.
