Nursery schools in a poor district in the central province of Nghe An have boosted the implementation of a movement to make hand-made toys for the children.

Since the beginning of this school year, 18 nursery schools in Tuong Duong District have called on parents to make hand-made toys, aiming to help to save the cost and create a useful and healthy educational environment for the children.

Teachers and parents often pick up stones or pieces of bamboos on local streams or roads to turn them into the toys. For instance, the bamboo pieces are brought to schools so that children can use them as a tool to take water put in a washing basin, which is similar the way they often help their parents to take water from local streams.

Lin Van Hue from Xa Luong Commune, said that following the call from teachers, he usually collects stones which are then drawn with vivid pictures on by teachers. The toys are not only eye-catching but also safe to use.

Parents also actively collect other materials such as leaves and pieces of wood to hand over them to schools. Some schools even proposed the establishment of houses which feature local traditions.

To date, at least 50 houses of this kind have been set up at local schools.
