Vietnam-US Friendship Association presents 100 scholarships to poor students in HCM City

The Vietnam-US Friendship Association granted 100 scholarships to underprivileged students in Ho Chi Minh City on June 26 ahead of the 243rd Independence Day of the United States.

Present at the event were representatives of the US Consulate General in HCM City, Nguyen Thi Hong Diem, Vice Chairwoman of Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO), Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong, President of the Vietnam-US Friendship Association in HCM City, along with several of the students who will receive the scholarships.

Addressing the event, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong, President of the Vietnam-US Friendship Association in HCM City, said the association hosts annual charity activities such as offering free medical treatment and scholarships to commemorate key dates in the history of both countries.

She noted that by granting scholarships it is expected to give plenty of encouragement to the underprivileged students.

This year 100 scholarships costing a total of VND130 million will be handed over to poor students in both primary and secondary schools in Go Vap district, District 1, District 8, and Binh Chanh district.

Each scholarship is to be worth VND1 million for primary school students and VND1.5 million for secondary school students.
