The Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject was announced on Thursday.
The rankings highlight the universities that are leading across general engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, civil engineering and chemical engineering subjects.
This year’s table has expanded to include 1,008 universities, up from 903 last year.

The California Institute of Technology and Stanford University share first place, rising from fourth and second positions respectively. The University of Cambridge and Harvard University share joint third, while the University of Oxford drops from first to fifth.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 includes almost 1,400 universities across 92 countries, standing as the largest and most diverse university rankings ever to date.
The table is based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
The only university ranking to be independently audited by professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, and trusted worldwide by students, teachers, governments and industry experts, this year’s league table provides great insight into the shifting balance of power in global higher education.
In February this year, HUST had three subjects got into top 500 of world best universities ranking by subjects 2019 by the education network Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), namely computer science and information systems, engineering-mechanical, aeronautical and manufacturing and engineering-electrical and electronics.
In September, the university was voted among top 1,000 best universities in the world by Times Higher Education.
