An abundance of student housing projects are underway

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has made a decision on the list of student housing development projects in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City using Government bonds in 2009 previously allocated to these two cities.

Accordingly, Hanoi will be in charge of 10 projects with a total investment capital of VND 625 billion ($33.8 million), providing accommodation for nearly 52,419 students. Of which, 2 big projects will be built at the Phap Van – Tu Hiep new urban area (accommodating up to 24,000 students) and My Dinh – Tu Liem area ( satisfying about 14,856 students).

Other projects locations include the Hanoi University of Agriculture, Vietnam Forestry University, Foreign Trade University, Viet Hung II College of Industry, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration, Hanoi National University of Education, Water Resources University and Electric Power University.

Ho Chi Minh will have a budget of VND 800 billion in Government bonds for the accomplishment of 5 projects, satisfying accommodation needs for 75,000 students studying at Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh, University of Technical Education – Ho Chi Minh, Ton Duc Thang University, University of Transport and Communications- 2nd unit and Ho Chi Minh University of Culture- 2nd unit.

12 of the 15 projects are expected to be accomplished in 2010 and the rest, including projects at Phap Van – Tu Hiep new urban area (Hanoi) and the dormitory of Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh are to be completed in 2011.

As expected, there will be about 4.3 million students and pupils, holding over 70 percent of housing demand (equivalent to 3 million pupils and students) in the whole country by 2015. However, the current number of accommodation for student only satisfies about 1 million pupils and students.
