The pilot program which will be carried out between November 12-30 will focus on measuring motorbike emissions, receiving discarded motorbikes and supporting their owners in buying new ones.

The campaign will apply to Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Piaggio, and SYM motorbikes registered before 2002 in Hanoi. People wishing to get new motorbikes will be consulted and receive a discount of VND 4 million from these manufacturers.

For motorbikes of five years or more (registered before 2017) that do not meet emission standards, owners will be supported with a part of the maximum maintenance cost not exceeding VND200,000/ vehicle for the repair of exhaust related parts.

Vehicle owners are also offered free checks of their motorcycle emissions when bringing their vehicles from the above five manufacturers to eight inspection points in Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung, Dong Da, Cau Giay, Thanh Xuan and Ha Dong districts.

The campaign is intended to assess the current emission status of motorbikes in the city and implement solutions to improve air quality and effectively manage traffic.

The department will also carry out a survey on people’s opinions on the impact of policies on motorcycle emissions.
