Dinh Thi Nam wants to say a big thank you to the very kind-hearted people who have been trying to help her family recover from the loss and damage from the tragic fire.

Central based Dan Tri’s correspondent has just returned from Nam’s house and has handed over to her the VND1, 3 million donated by Dan Tri’s readers during the past few weeks. Recognising the urgency of the situation, monies are being handed over as soon as possible. This is indeed the fourth occasion in which Dan Tri has given her the donations from readers, to help them cover the cost of treatment for 3 family members who have suffered from serious burns. Her husband, Ngo Phuoc remains in Da Nang hospital for treatment due to severe injuries.

When we arrived at the house, Nam and some neighbours were the only people at home. There were also two new altars; one of her granddaughter; and the other of her first son, both of whom had died in the severe petrol fire.

“The fire has been put out but we have suffered great loss. However, we are extremely lucky to have such kind-hearted neighbours and readers. They have given us a lot of much needed support as we cannot otherwise afford the cost of treatment on our very limited incomes. “We want to express our sincere thanks to them,” she said in tears.

The fire occurred during the night of September 12 at Ngo Phuoc’s house, Hamlet 6, Duy Son Commune, Duy Xuyen District, Quang Nam Province. As a result, his granddaughter My died on the way to hospital; his first son Ngo Phi Dong, aged 51 died a day later. He had suffered 75% burns. His wife Dinh Thi Nam, age 49 suffered 30 % burns and his second son, Ngo Phi Duong, My’s father, suffered 63% burns.

A rice plucking machine, their most valuable item, and all other furniture in the home of the farming family were destroyed. Their kind neighbours are trying to help them raise funds for medical treatment.
