Mother of ill baby shares donation

A poor woman in the central province of Quang Binh who received donations to help her cure her sick baby has shared part of the money with other disadvantaged people in the area.

Nguyen Thi Hoa in Dong Hoi City whose six-month son suffer from in-born Hydrocephalus received nearly the VND200 million (USD9,523) in donations from the readers.

She said she was more lucky than many disadvantaged people and decided to use VND50 million (USD2,380) to help other children from SOS Village in Dong Hoi City and the provincial Social Protection Centre. She will use the remainder to repay debts and provide treatment to her son.

Nguyen Minh Hieu, Director of the SOS village said this was the first time the centre had received such a donation.

Hoa said that when her son Phan Minh Phong was two months old, his head suddenly began to swell. She was really shocked when doctors at the National Hospital of Pediatrics diagnosed that he contracted Hydrocephalus. However, she could not manage VND50 million for the operation, and the problem continued to worsen.

The single mother had to look after her son at her parent’s house after the father ran away.

 

Mrs. Hoa donated VND50 million to SOS Village in Dong Hoi City and Quang Binh Social Protection Centre 

After receiving the donation, she took her son to Hue General Hospital and then HCM City for the surgery, but doctors said, this could not be done because the disease has become too serious. Now, he can only take medicine.

Ha Thi Ngan, an official from the Dong Hoi City’s Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs said that the donations would help to partially help Mrs. Hoa’s family to deal with the financial difficulties.
