A two-month old boy, whose parents suffer from diseases, are in desperate need of milk, as the mother cannot produce a sufficient amount and the family cannot afford milk powder.

Born on April 16, Nguyen Duc Tri faced immediate problems, as he grasped for milk but did not get any he would not stop crying.

His farther Nguyen Van Hai, 23, has an eye problem that has left him with a loss of 70% of his vision, He often gets lost, particularly in small lanes. Sometimes he has trouble finding the way home. 

Hai never had the chance for an education, so is also illiterate.

After an abusive childhood, he left home for HCM City at the age of 16. Later, he went to a centre for the disabled to learn a trade. Since 2011 he has been working for a wood workshop in Binh Duong with the salary of VND57,000 per day.

The centre is where he met his wife, Nguyet, who suffered from a number of other diseases, including partial paralysis and chronic bronchitis. She had to make frequent trips to the hospital during her pregnancy, and ultimately had a cesarean section which cost the young couple more than VND10 million (USD476). The grandmother had to mortgage her land to get the loan in order to pay for it.

After paying the rental and water and electricity fees, the couple has only VND1 million (USD47.6) for their daily expenses.

"We are at our wits end," said the mother, "A 900-gram box of milk lasts for 10 days, and it is expensive. We have to buy rice on credit every month just to get by, so how can we afford to buy milk?”
