A young woman in Ha Tinh Province bears tremendous family and financial burden after her husband's death in Angola.

After being married in 2006, Hoang Thi My and Nguyen Van Binh had two children, a girl who is now six and a boy who is eight months old.

Six months ago Binh, the husband, went to Angola to work in a hopes of improving their living conditions. The couple sold almost everything they had to pay for the trip. Despite the incredible financial burden, the couple hoped that it would be better for the family, especially the children in the long-term. However, this hope was destroyed when My received the news that her husband had died in Angola.

Binh's friends said that he looked tired several days before his death. They advised him to take a rest, but he continued doing part-time jobs until one day he fainted. When his colleagues tried to rouse him they realised that he was dead.

My was then left with not only the debt they had taken on, but also an ailing son, Van Anh, who was born with a tumor on his forehead. Because of their financial situation, My was unable to get him proper medical treatment and the tumor has since spread.

When reporters recently visited her house she was still working in the fields. She said that her father, who has difficulties walking had to travel several three kilometres by foot to her house each morning to take care of the children. 

Nguyen Trong Tiep, confirmed that the family has no assets of any significant value and that they are living at near the poverty line.
