A small girl in Bac Giang Province has been struggling for twelve years with a strange skin disease, but unfortunately her parents can do nothing about it due to their difficult finacial situation.

Her body is covered with black spots, which makes her scared of meeting strange people. No one knows what the disease is but they're familiar with a girl named Huong who always wears a hat and plays alone because of the shyness caused by the disease.

After receiving a letter from Nguyen Duc Thanh, Headmaster of Luc Son Primary and Secondary School, in Luc Son Commue, Luc Ngan District, Bac Giang Province, DtiNews reporter quickly went to the village where the girl lives.

Her temporary earth house is situated beside a small stream. She is now a Grade 2 pupil.

According to her parents, she was born with these spots which cause her itching and overall discomfort The spots have become bigger and bigger over time but no one knows what they are. Some people even advised her family to give her up because she carries some kind of curse.

Her parents have to dig forest bamboo sprouts and catch snails to earn money to buy medicine for her. They reclaimed a plot of forest land to grow cassava from which they hoped to earn enough money to take her to hospital.

Huong’s grandparents sold two plots of land for VND10 million (USD476.2) to support her treatment. Her family has borrowed money from many people to pay for the treatment.

The recent rains have damaged their house with pieces of soil swept away and only frame left. With the support of the local Women’s Union, Huong’s family received a VND25-million loan for repairing the house, but the money was not enough, so the repair work has not yet been finished.

The girl’s disease has become more serious and the chapped skin has started to bleed, therefore, sometimes, she can only cry. However, in spite of bad weather, everyday, she crosses streams to go to school. She is also punctual and achieves quite good grades.

Her dream is to become a doctor in the future to cure herself and other people.
