A man in HCM City is now in desperate need of community help in order to continue taking care of his blind wife, who has been suffering from psoriasis for seven years, and get her medical treatment.

Le Hoang Thao and Nguyen Thi Xuan live in a house which is only accessible by crossing small the narrow rows of rice paddies. It used to be a thatched house, but thanks to local authorities’ support, it has been upgraded to corrugated metal.

Xuan’s body is covered in ulcers which she scratches due to psoriasis.

When she started to present symptoms of the disease, her husband took her to a dermatologist, but even after the long treatment, she did not see any improvement.

Successive visits to other doctors left them disappointed in the results, as her condition continued to worsen.

Most recently, he took her to a dermatologist who was said to be as specialist for disease, spending VND60 million (USD2,857) for the treatment. Nonetheless, Xuan’s symptoms got worse, and she has become blind.

Thao said, “Now, I just wish I had money to take my wife to the dermatologist so we could save sight."

Thao earns about VND3 million per month working at a private electricity company. He has to get up early to do all the housework before leaving for his job. Many have advised him to find another wife, but he is determined not to abandon Xuan. Others praise him for his dedication.
