A poor young man in Bac Ninh Province is calling for financial support to help him remove a 16-year large tumour.

Lacking confidence due to his strange appearance, Nguyen Van Thuan is something of a recluse.

Thuan was diagnosed with a tumour at the age of six. Doctors said the tumour was benign and his poor family were unable to afford to treat it, ignoring medical advice.

When he was 12 years old, he was taken to Bach Mai Hospital for the surgery, but the condition became critical, and it has not improved.

Due to family financial difficulties he had not returned for any medical treatment.

Several years ago, he got married and had a daughter who is now four years old. But his happiness was short-lived when his wife walked out on him.

Since then he has had to travelled to many localities to sell cotton swabs to support the family. He meets many kind-hearted people, but he also faces discrimination and taunts because of his appearance he send VND1.3 million (USD61.9) per month to his family.

Recently, a young woman who also sells cotton swabs, has come to his house to take care of him and his daughter.

He said that his only wish is his face can be treated and that he can live his life without discrimination.
