A couple in Khanh Hoa Province is in desperate need of financial support to help save their two-year-old son from congenital heart disease.

Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, 29, in Khanh Hoa Province’s Dien Khanh District said that her son, Vo Hung Son, was born with a heart disease which often made his fingers, toes and his skin to be pale.

Due to the family’s financial difficulties, the couple had no alternative but to keep their son at home for treatment.

However, recently, his condition has worsened and doctors at Khanh Hoa Province’s General Hospital advised the couple to take their son to HCM City Paediatrics Hospital 2 for further check-ups. The couple couldn’t afford to pay the examination fees, so that they had to take their son back home.

Some months later, they saved VND4 million (USD190.4) and brought their son to HCM City Paediatrics Hospital 2 again. However, they again ran out of money for the treatment.

Luckily, the boy benefited from charitable heart surgery at Hue General Hospital in September this year. “We didn’t have to pay the operation fees of VND30 million, but still had to borrow VND10 million for buying medicines and daily expenses when staying at the hospital. I often asked for free meals at the hospital to save costs”, the mother said.

After the operation, the boy has still been taken to the hospital for being re-examined and is scheduled to undergo two more operations.

“We don’t know how to pay for these operations. Our parents are also poor and we hope people can help save our son”, Ngan said.
