Three small children in mountainous Yen Bai Province are in need of financial support to provide even daily meals after their mother died and their father left them.

Eighth-grader Ban A Sen, the oldest of the siblings, said, "Our mother died when my brother was one month old. I don't know where my father has gone."

Phan Hong Ly, headmaster of Nam Bung Kindergarten, said Sen was unable to attend school regularly because he had to go to the forest and find vegetables for his brother and sister. Ban Thi Ton is in fifth grade and Ban A Nhi is five years old.

Their meals are just rice and wild vegetables

They lack furniture and the house looks like a dilapidated shed. Nhi prefers to hold a pair of slippers instead of wearing them as he said they were a gift from Ly and he was afraid he would break them if he wore them too often.

Trieu Chung Minh, vice chairman of Nam Bung Commune, said, "People in the commune said they saw their father sometimes but he just disappear. The children are raising each other. The eldest brother finds vegetables and the neighbours help them with rice. We’re all poor here so we can't help them much. We just hope that Sen can return to school soon."
