Poor parents struggle to raise ill children
A family in Ninh Binh Province are in need of financial help to raise two children who are suffering from cerebral palsy.
During the day, the couple works as bricklayers for little income and struggle to take care of the children when they go home. They often have to stay up all night to hold the children.
The children can't sit up or talk and their limbs are thin. They can't control their bladders and feeding them is a struggle.
"Sometimes, it felt like we couldn't go on anymore. The children can't sit up, let alone walk. Why do they have to be like this? Both of them are over 10 years old, yet they haven't called me 'mum' once," Nhung said.
Phuong and Nhung got married in 2004. But after their first child was born, he cried non-stop and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
They had the second son a year later. At first, he didn't cry like his brother but five months later, his limbs became weak and he started to cry all day. The family was shocked when he was also diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
Doctors recently told them that both children also had medullary sponge kidney that is incurable. Phuong and Nhung said they didn't know what to do but try to live for one day after another. Nhung is weak after ovarian cysts surgery but needs to support the family.
Phuong said, "One day, we brought the children to visit my parents-in-law. They saw the school and wanted to go in like other pupils or else they wouldn't move. Then they kept looking back at the school when leaving. It really hurt."
