Little boy bed-bound because of cancer
A couple in Tra Vinh Province is calling for help to treat their 6-year-old son who is suffering from neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that forms in certain types of nerve tissue.
Huynh Thanh Tung lives with his parents in a small house in Tan Binh Commune, Cang Long District.
After 20 days, he recovered from the fever and chest pain, however, his parents were shocked when doctors said he had neuroblastoma in and behind the layer of thin tissue that lines the abdomen and covers all of the organs within it.
When Tung was transferred to Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital for chemotherapy sessions, his legs already swelled up and he couldn't stand up. Tung's parents moved to HCM City to take care of him and to save travelling fees. Tung's parents then work as bricklayers to earn some income.
According to the doctors, the tumour is too close to the blood vessels so it can't be operated on. Tung then continued receiving chemotherapy sessions.
"He is aware of everything but can't sit up. He is in pain and moans all night so I ask doctors to give him some pain killers," Tung's mother said. "His legs have swollen up again and doctors said he might be paralysed if he didn't have the next dose of medicine."
But the family has ran out of money. They borrowed VND45m (USD1,900) from relatives and other sources with interest. Meanwhile, Tung's father only earns up to VND200,000 a day.
Tung's grandparents are also poor, His grandfather doesn't have money to remove urinary tract stones and his grandmother has arthritis.
