Sisters face hardship after mother imprisoned
Two sisters in the northern province of Bac Giang are in need of financial support after their mother was imprisoned and their father has suffered from alcoholism.
The two sisters Tran Thi Kim Hong, 12 years old and Tran Thi Han, 5 years old, live in Viet Lap Commune, Tan Yen District.
Hong’s mother was sentenced 12 years in prison, starting from 2014. Since then her father has become an alcoholic.
Two years ago, local authorities and volunteers in Hanoi jointly helped to build a small house for the girl’s family. Inside the house are only two beds with some scraps collected by her father.
Giap Thi Hieu, head of Viet Lap Commune’s Red Cross, said that the locality has called on local residents to support the family for many times, but this is too small compared to their difficulties. Recently, the little girl Tran Thi Han was hospitalised due to starvation.
Hong said that sometimes she comes to the prison to visit her mother who is now ailing.
Pham Cong Bang, headmaster of Viet Lap Secondary School, said that Hong is a good student with quite high study results; but she usually feels unhappy about her family condition. He hoped that the girl’s family will receive support.
