Heart disease threatens little girl
A young couple in Khanh Hoa Province is calling for support to help cover the costs of surgery for their 15-month-old daughter who is suffering from heart disease.
Le Thi Ngoc Dung got married in 2012 and has two girls. Her oldest daughter is three years old and the youngest, Phan Hoang Le Vy, is only 15 months old. Unfortunately, Vy was diagnosed with acute pneumonia just a month after birth. When she was admitted to hospital, it was found out that she also has congenital heart disease.
"Doctors said she has ventricular septal defect, atrial constriction and pulmonary stenosis. At first, she had to breathe through a ventilator and fed through feeding tubes at Khanh Hoa Province General Hospital for a week," Dung said.
The initial cost for the operation is VND50m (USD2,200) which is out of the family's reach. Dung is a hairdresser but she has to stay home to take care of the children. Dung's husband works at a petrol station for only VND2.5m a month.
The medicine cost them hundreds of thousands of VND each month but Vy still suffers from constant pains.
Vo Nguyen Son, vice chairman of Dien Khanh Town, said the local budget was limited and can't help them much.
