90-year-old woman cares for children with mental health issues
A 90-year-old woman in the northern province of Ha Nam is in desperate need of financial support as she is taking care of her two children who both suffer from mental health problems.
Le Thi Nhi in Duy Tien District and her children are living in a dilapidated house which can collapse at any time.
Nhi said that she gave birth to seven children. Two among those, one 57 years old and the other 46 years old have been living with mental health issues since they were small. Meanwhile, the other five are also poor so they can’t help her. In 2015, her eldest son was diagnosed with the same disease.
Le Van Dac, head of Doi Nhi Village, said that for many years, Nhi’s family have lived off regular food donations from their neighbours.
At the age of 90, Nhi has become weak, but she has to take care of her ailing children every day. Her husband died in 2004. She worried that after she dies, no one will care for them.
Whenever it there are heavy rains, the house leaks badly. On days of strong winds and storms, her and her children have to leave the house.
