Elderly woman seeks help for grandchildren
An 81-year-old grandmother in Phu Yen Province is in need of help to support her grandchildren after the death of their mother.
"Their father returns home once in a while and gives us only a few hundred thousand VND," Di said.
Di has lost her eyesight in old age. When her grandchildren were too small to do housework, she cooked meals and accidentally burnt her hand. In order to support the children's education, their meals mostly consist of vegetables.
"My wish is for them to be able to study properly and have a brighter future," she said.
Di's house is also dilapidated and she has to depend on neighbour's kindness.
Huynh Ngoc Su, head of Vietnam's Fatherland Front in Son Thanh Dong Commune, said, "We listed them as a poor household so they receive preferential policies. She has the usual VND1,040,000 (USD45.62) for elderly people. But it's not enough to raise three children. I hope the community will help them overcome the hardship."
