An elderly woman in Ha Nam Province is facing a tragic life when she has to take care of four ailing children and two abandoned grandchildren.

Nguyen Thi Hien in Cong Ly Commune, Ly Nhan District, is now at the age of 70. Hien’s husband died nearly 10 years ago, leaving four ailing children for her.

She said that her eldest son Nguyen Van Hung often suffers from epilepsy. The three others, Nguyen Van Phuong, Nguyen Thi Thao and Nguyen Van Tien are all dumb. The four children’s health condition were weak since when they were born, so they can’t do hard work, instead of just mainly staying at home.

Among those, only Nguyen Van Phuong got married with two children who are now 11 years old and eight years ago. But, six years ago, his wife left home without saying a word. Since then, the two children have lived with Hien.

Her grandson Nguyen Van Hoang had to leave school to support the family.

Nguyen Thi Phuong, Hien’s neighbour, said that local people had helped Hien’s family, but what they could do remained modest. She often gives up the food for her children and grandchildren, so she is continuously tired due to being too hungry.
