Tuyet and her mother
"She wants milk but her mother doesn't have enough money. She's a good girl and quiet. But the doctors have just removed one of her eyes so she cries and it’s heartbreaking," one of the patients in the same room said.
Other patients give them fruits and milk so Tuyet can forget about the pain. Lung Thi De, Tuyet's mother, worries that Tuyet would lose her vision if the other eye also swells up.
Dr Pham Minh Chau from the National Hospital of Ophthalmology said, "Her eye nearly popped out of the socket when she was admitted to hospital. She has cancer in both eyes and it's more severe on the left. We're having chemotherapy sessions to treat an 8-millimetre tumour in the right eye. If the tumour spreads, her life will be in danger."
Tuyet's mother is borrowing money anywhere she can but can only pay for two chemotherapy sessions while Tuyet needs at least six sessions. The family may not even be able to support to travel from Ha Giang to Hanoi.
