A couple in Can Tho Province have received lots of support from Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper's readers after their desperate story about possibly needing to sell their baby via adoption was published.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Pham Vu Toan gave VND10m (USD430) donation to Quy

The representative of Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper and officials of Can Tho Department of Public Security visited Ho Thi Quy on August 15. Senior Lieutenant Colonel Pham Vu Toan transferred a VND10m (USD430) donation of the political security department of the army to Quy.

Bui Phuoc Thien, party secretary of Long Hung Ward, said, "The Young Entrepreneurs Association also visited and donated VND10m in cash and a VND70m (USD3,000) house to Quy yesterday. The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Can Tho City and Can Tho Obstetric Hospital promised to give Quy free services when she goes into labour.”

According to Quy, many people in and out of Vietnam called with encouragement and helped them a lot. She expressed gratitude to kind readers and was already admitted to Can Tho Obstetric Hospital on the morning of August 16.

Quy is nine months into her pregnancy but she also has heart disease and fibroids. Doctors said they would have to start a c-section because Quy was too ill and the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck.

Since the family lacked health insurance, they were forced to provide a deposit of VND4m (USD172) for the surgery which is a huge sum of money for them. They also don't have anything valuable to sell and thought of selling their 15-month-old child.
