Le Hong Ngoc from Yen Nam Commune, Duy Tien District is taking care of her 54-year-old mother Vu Thi Hoa who has just returned home after an operation.

Ngoc herself also has been suffering from hypothyroidism for three years. Initially, she used to come to National Hospital of Endocrinology for the treatment but since when her mother was ill, she hasn’t almost gone there due to the family’s financial difficulties.

The 15-year-old girl is skinny and much smaller than her age.

The mother tried to hide from the family that she had been diagnosed with the cancer and did not go to hospital for treatment. Ngoc and her father found out and persuaded her to hospital.

The family has now incurred a large debt to cover the treatment, while they mostly depend on farming. Sometimes, Ngoc’s father takes advantage of time to work as a builder with a very modest income.

Vu Van Diep, head of Than Y Village said Ngoc’s family is among the poorest households in the locality. Neighbours have provided some help.
