Two poor siblings in the central city of Ha Tinh have got a free eye treatment from the National Hospital of Ophthalmology following an article about their condition published on Dantri/DTiNews Online Newspaper.

The article is about Chau Doan and Chau Bang who have been suffering from corneal opacities since when they were born.

Chau Bang also faces the same eye problem with her sister

Chau Doan, 4, was born with unusual eye signals. Her parents Le Khac Hai and Pham Thi Lanh took her to Ha Tinh Eye Hospital for the medical check-up where doctors said that she faced corneal opacities.

After that, she was moved to the National Hospital of Ophthalmology in Hanoi. According to the hospital, she needed a costly operation. However, the poor couple could not afford this, so they had to take their child back home.

When Chau Doan was two years ago, the couple gave birth to Chau Bang whose eye symptoms were similar to her sister right after being born; but once again, their parents were powerless due to the family’s financial difficulties for the treatment.

After the article about the little girls were published on Dantri/DTiNews, Associate Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hiep, director of the National Hospital of Ophthalmology decided to provide free treatment for both of them.

The hospital has held the second consultation on their case with the participation from two experts of Orbis International.

Dr. Hiep said that their disease documents were also sent to the US for further consultation. The result showed that their condition is not very serious as they can ensure their daily activities. So, they will take medicine treatment first, instead of the urgent surgery which would be risky for children and have bad side effects.

The two girls need to be brought to the National Hospital of Ophthalmology for being re-examined for form every six months to one year, Hiep added, noting that these treatments will be totally free.
