Readers help build house for ailing man and son

A man in Bac Lieu Province has been able to build a house thanks to donations from Dantri readers.


  

Minh receives the donation

Le Van Minh, 55, is battling a liver tumour and taking care of his disabled son, Le Van Dien, 25. Minh's wife abandoned them when Dien was only three years old. Minh was diagnosed with a malignant liver tumour which needs urgent surgery. According to doctors, without timely treatment, he would die.

His family gets a modest monthly subsidy of just VND700,000 (USD30.43) from the government. They also do not have a house and is allowed to stay on the land of a kind neighbour.

The representative of Dantri, Nguyen Van Khoi, vice chairman of Vinh Loi District People's Council and Duong Thi Gam, vice chairwoman of the Red Cross Organisation in Vinh Loi, visited and transferred to a donation of VND63,410,000 to Minh.

Nhan Anh Dung, chairman of Long Thanh Commune People's Committee, said, "The kindness they received is the most meaningful thing. I hope they will use the money wisely and live better."

Minh thanked everyone for helping them and cried upon receiving the donation. Minh said he would deposit the money to pay hospital charges for Minh and his son. Besides the donation, the readers also helped him build a small house.
