Mother struggles to raise children after brain surgery
A woman in Ha Nam Province who is struggling with a brain tumour is calling for help to support her three-month-old twins.
Doan said her health during pregnancy was too weak so the doctors had to carry out a C-section at the 38th week of pregnancy. After birth, the twins had to be incubated for two weeks.
A few days after being discharged, she suddenly had an unbearable headache. The doctors had to transfer her to Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi for a brain surgery overnight. After two operations, she doesn't have any breast milk anymore. However, she still has headaches and sometimes, a seizure.
On the day Doan had brain surgery. One of her twins had pneumonia and was admitted to the National Children's Hospital. Because of poverty, the family asked to take him home as soon as his condition showed some improvement.
They also had to borrow from everywhere and incurred a lot of debts.
"Doctors said I still had to go to the hospital for check-ups and take medicines regularly or else the tumour will return. My tumour had grown too big so it meant there were a lot of consequences," Doan said. "My parents-in-law even put their house up as collateral for loans but we still don't have enough to buy milk for the children. I don't see how my illness can get better."
Dang Thi Bac, head of Than Trai Village, said, "Doan's family is one of the most difficult cases in our area. We hope they will get help so that Doan can continue treatment and raise her children."
