Three years after the marriage, they started worrying about the infertility.

According to doctors at Tu Du Hospital in HCM City, the couple was advised to apply in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

By 2019, the couple conducted their fifth IVF but they all failed, costing around VND500 million (USD21,739).

They also used other methods, including oriental medicine, but to date, having a child has remained a dream for them.

Hoi said that her husband told her to remarry so that she could have children, but she is determined to stay with him.

Amid the bad impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Binh collapsed at a construction site where he was working in July. He was hospitalised, but doctors detected no severe problems.

On the evening of July 17, while watching TV, he suddenly faced a convulsive fit and was taken to Thu Duc Hospital. Then, he was moved to Cho Ray Hospital for the treatment where doctors said he suffered from encephalitis.

Nearly a month later, Binh came back to Thu Duc Hospital as his family could not afford the treatment at Cho Ray Hospital, but his condition has greatly worsened. He has to use a ventilator.

Doctor Nguyen Trong Dung from Thu Duc District said that the hospital is co-operating with doctors from Cho Ray and HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases for Binh’s treatment.

Doctors consider using specialised medicines for Binh, but the treatment is very costly, at around VND130 million (USD5,652) for five days.

After the two-month stay at hospitals, the couple have incurred a debt of nearly VND200 million.
