Can Tho mother calls for help to save son from cancer
A woman in Can Tho Province is calling for financial support to help save her son who is suffering from cancer after receiving acceptance of a university place.
"He was happy but cried so much when I read the notice for him. We tried to console him," said Pham Thi Hong Loan, Anh's mother.
Loan said she and Duc Anh had go to one hospital after another in the past month. When the notice arrived, she was also told that Duc Anh's tumour had spread.
According to Loan, Duc Anh's health was normal. When he fell sick, he would take a few days off but he would get better again. He was well during the national high school graduation examination.
However, two weeks later, he had back pain and on September 14, he was admitted to Can Tho City Oncology Hospital. A malignant tumour was found in his left kidney. The family brought him to Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City for another exam and the result was the same. Moreover, the tumour already spread to the bones and other organs.
Since then, Duc Anh's health worsened to the point that he can't sit or stand for too long.
"He told me to buy him a wheel-chair so he can go to the university. We still can't believe everything. I'm praying for him," Loan said.
Loan and her husband did odd jobs to support the five-member family. When their eldest daughter finished high school, Loan's husband and daughter went to Binh Duong to work at a factory. After Duc Anh was diagnosed with cancer, they took a leave of absence from work to take care of him.
They already borrowed money from relatives and neighbours and planned to sell the house to treat Duc Anh.
Nguyen Thi Bich, Duc Anh's homeroom teacher at Luu Huu Phuoc High School, said, "We were all shocked when finding out about Anh's illness. His family has financial difficulties and they are struggling to support him. I really hope they will get more help."
