Dantri/DTiNews has transferred over VND163m (USD7,000) which readers sent to support a 13-year-old boy to have a liver transplant.

Nguyen Quang Thai's family receives the donation.

Nguyen Quang Thai is from Bac Ninh Province and suffers from Wilson's disease, acute liver failure, cirrhosis, gastrointestinal bleeding, and hepatitis B. In July 2020, Thai also went through an operation for heart disease. His only chance to survive was a liver transplant from his father.

Nguyen Quang Tuan, Thai's father, does every work he can to support his wife and four children, from bricklayer to carpenter. However, since the liver transplant operation cost up to a billion VND, they have run out of money.

After their story was published, many people have donated directly to Thai over VND600m (USD26,000). On January 6, a Dantri representative transferred VND163,336,000 to Thai's family.

Tran Thi Chung, Thai's mother, said they had received lots of help from within and outside of Vietnam. The operation was carried out successfully by doctors at Military Hospital 108.

"We really appreciate everyone. It's like he was reborn thanks to you," she said.

Dr Le Van Thanh said Thai's condition has improved greatly as he can eat well. His father was discharged on December 17 in good health and can resume daily activities.
