Orphaned brother and sister face uncertain future after mother dies
A brother in Gia lai Province is calling for help for his sister to continue her studies.
According to Hung, ever since he was born their family were in poverty. They had to sell everything to treat his father who suffered serious injuries after a traffic accident. However, his father died not long afterwards. Hung dropped out of school when he was in the ninth grade to find jobs and support his mother.
During this time, a man appeared and stayed with them for two years but left after Hung's mother was pregnant.
One year ago, Hung had an accident so his mother had to put up their house as collateral for a bank loan. Last December, his mother was too tired to work and later diagnosed with lung cancer. She died over a month later.
"I'm worried about our debts and the house and what should I do so that Linh can continue going to school?" he said.
Their neighbours donated money to Hung when he fell sick after his mother's death. As his health got a bit better, he immediately returned to work as a bricklayer.
Tran Van Trung, Hung's uncle, said, "I also have six children to take care of so I can't help them much. The little girl stays with us during the week and returns home to live with her brother on the weekends."
Bui Van Phu, vice chairman of Tra Da Commune People's Committee, said, "We visited and gave them necessities during Tet and called for help for them. We hope they will get more support from the community."
