Dai needs a marrow transplant to survive

According to doctors, he needs a marrow transplant to survive, which can cost up to VND800 million (USD34,782). However, his family is too poor to cover the treatment.

Dai said that difficulties have faced his family since 2013 when he had a traffic accident on the way back home from work. He suffered serious injuries leaving him in hospital for two years. After that, his health condition worsened, so he only stayed at home.

Since then, his wife has become the family breadwinner. She is now working for a factory in Bac Ninh which is some 30 kilometres from home.

In July 2019, following consecutive fevers, Dai was taken to hospital for a medical check-up. He was then diagnosed with aplastic anaemia. This shocked Dai’s father who experienced a stroke and then died three months later.

Dai’s brother is willing to donate marrow for him, but the transplant will cost up to VND800 million (USD34,782).

Dr. Do Thi Thuy from the National Institute of Haematology & Blood Transfusion said due to financial difficulties, the transplant had been delayed for many times. She hoped that donors could assist them.
