Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper held the opening ceremony on Monday for a new bridge in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.

The new Dantri Bridge spans the Co My Canal connecting Dong Giang A and Dong Giang villages in Thoi Lai District.

The bridge, which is 32 metres long and 3.50 metres wide, cost VND500 million, donated by individuals and organisations to Dantri's Charity Programme, including VND100 million from the Casper Vietnam Company.

The opening ceremony for the new Dantri Bridge saw the attendance of Can Tho City People's Council Chairman Pham Van Hieu, Editor-in-Chief of Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper Pham Tuan Anh, Secretary of Thoi Lai District's Party Committee Tran Thi Vinh Nghi, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City Women's Association Nguyen Thi Thu Lam, and many local people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Pham Van Hieu congratulated officials and residents on the new bridge.

"Although the bridge isn’t a large project, it is a meaningful gift from readers of Dantri Newspaper for Can Tho," he said. "We want to send our sincere thanks for your valuable support."

Editor-in-Chief Pham Tuan Anh expressed his happiness about the project and its benefit to residents. "I believe that this project will contribute to improving the lives of local people through socio-economic development in Thoi Lai District, Can Tho City," Anh said. "I hope you will maintain it to ensure safe travel for everyone."

At the ceremony, leaders from Can Tho City and Dantri Newspaper distributed 30 gifts to disadvantaged people in Dong Binh Commune.
