Nghe An primary school desperate for an upgrade

Students and teachers at the Tri Le 4 Primary School in the central province of Nghe An are calling for financial help to build new facilities.



Tri Le 4 Primary School which lies in a remote area in the mountainous district of Que Phong only has some wooden board classrooms built by teachers and parents. 


There are no toilets or other functional rooms and the area has no access to electricity, wifi, or tap water.



Vice headmaster of the school, Tho Ba Sinh, said that the school currently has 15 classes of 283 students. However, only six classes with 124 students study at the site while the other pupils learn at two other locations due to the difficult roads and a lack of facilities here.


"It usually takes us two hours to travel by motorbike from Que Phong Town centre as there are only mountainous paths that through forests," he said. "We can’t drive here during rainy days."


The teacher said that most of the people in the area are from the H'mong ethnic group and their lives are very difficult.


"A kind donor helped install a solar energy system for us, but it is only enough for lighting," he said. "Our teaching activities have faced lots of difficulties."



Sinh said while the local government budget was limited, they hoped to receive more support to improve the facilities so all the students could study in better conditions together.
