Nguyen Dinh Son, 59, and his son Nguyen Dinh Thong, 30, rely on frequent dialysis to stay alive.

After eight years of battling the disease, Son's health has significantly worsened, and the pain is compounded by witnessing his son endure the same ordeal. "I wish I could take all his pain," Son expressed. The family's savings have been depleted over the years, covering Son's medical expenses, leaving them financially drained to continue treatments for both.

Both previously worked as construction workers, providing for their family. However, the lengthy and expensive treatment has taken its toll on their ability to work. "We live together in one house. My wife and daughter-in-law, both of whom have poor health, stay home to do housework, while Thong has two young children," Son shared.

Son and Thong must visit the hospital three times a week for dialysis, often relying on meals from charity groups.

Nguyen Thuy Chinh, the chairman of the Tru Son Commune People's Committee, highlighted the family's hardships since the diagnosis. "They each receive a monthly allowance of VND540,000 (USD22), but their medical expenses far exceed this. They have accumulated over VND200 million in debt and are unable to work," Chinh stated, calling for community support to aid their treatment.
