The programme was launched after PM Pham Minh Chinh called for support to help replace all deteriorating houses for low-income people between 2024-2025.

Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Dao Ngoc Dung, has also asked for joint efforts from organisations and individuals to build new houses for disadvantaged people nationwide by the end of 2025.

As a ministry publication, Dantri Newspaper has begun a campaign to build 100 houses between now and next year. Construction of the first will start on April 5, 2024.

The house is being built for the family of Ma Ngoc Chinh, 76, in the northern province of Thai Nguyen's Phu Luong District. It will cost around VND300 million, including VND140 million donated by Dantri readers, VND80 million donated by Brigade 299 under Vietnam Engineer Command, and VND70 million from Phu Luong District Enterprise Association.

Fifty houses will be built in 2024, with the remainder completed next year. Each family will receive financial support of at least VND50 million donated by the newspaper's readers.

Surveys from local authorities showed that thousands of makeshift and deteriorating houses need to be replaced nationwide. The number is increasing in some localities due to natural disasters.
