Hoang Thu Trang was diagnosed with kidney failure when she was just three years old following consecutive fevers, abdominal distension, vomiting and tiredness. Doctors said that she only had one kidney which was also gradually deteriorating.
Trang is struggling kidney failure
A kidney transplant or artificial kidney implantation were the two ways to save Trang according to doctors. This would only become possible when she is stronger and weighs around 15 kilos. However, to date, she weighs just eight kilos so the surgery has not yet been performed.
Every month, Trang is taken to hospital for treatment which lasts 12 days and costs VND13 million (USD520).
Trang is now in Grade 1 of Nghia Loc Primary School in Nghia Dan District.
Dinh Thi Hanh, the girl’s teacher, said that despite the serious disease, Trang likes going to school. But she has become more tired due to the disease.
Her belly has become more swollen, causing her to vomit.
Nguyen Van Hieu, head of Dap Danh Village, said that Trang’s family is very poor and her eldest brother had to drop out of school after finishing Grade 9.
The family has incurred a total debt of VND500 million.
