Urban Change in Vietnam Exhibition showcases lost buildings
The on-going Urban Change in Vietnam Photo Exhibition has pointed out that many valuable buildings in HCM City have been lost through urbanisation.
The problem was mentioned during the seminar on the exhibition opening day on December 10 at Van Lang University in HCM City.
Dr Michael Waibel from Hamburg University said they needed a multi-dimensional perspective for sustainable urbanisation problems. He also pointed out that urbanisation means losing many valuable buildings like Ba Son Wharf which had historical values but has been replaced by more modern buildings.
Many experts have discussed the impacts of climate change, migration to urban areas and its effects on the environment as well as solutions and ideas.
Waibel has researched urban areas for 30 years and he is especially interested in HCM City's experience during climate change. He has collected many materials about the changes in HCM City and Vietnam. 40 photos at the exhibition show the changes and positive development in Hanoi, HCM City and Danang in the past decade.
The exhibition is jointly held by the Centre of Regional and Urban Studies and Van Lang University. It will be held until December 17 to improve public awareness about climate change.
