Vietnam has youngest squad at U23 Asian Cup 2024

The national U23 football team has been recognised as the youngest squad competing at the 2024 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Asian Cup finals which will run from April 15 to May 3 in Qatar.



According to statistics compiled by the website Seasia goal, among the 16 teams set to participate at the U23 Asian Cup 2024, Vietnam has the youngest squad with an average age of just 20.21 years.


The youngest member of the Vietnamese team is Nguyen Manh Hung, 18, hailing from Binh Phuoc province.

Vietnam was followed by Indonesia who have an average age of 20.56 years. Tajikistan and host nation Qatar were joint third with an average age of 20.95 years.

In contrast, Saudi Arabia with an average age of 21.91, Japan with an average age of 21.6 years, and Thailand with an average age of 21.43 years are the oldest squads at the U23 Asian Cup finals this year.

In terms of value, the Vietnamese U23 men’s football team were valued at EUR2.34 million by Transfermarkt, ranking 11th out of a total of 16 teams. Key players include Nguyen Thai Son, Khuat Van Khang, Luong Duy Cuong, and Ho Van Cuong who were valued at EUR150,000 each.

Topping the list was the Japanese team at cost of EUR12.6 million. The Republic of Korea came second with a value of EUR11.28 million.

At the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup finals, which will run from April 15 to May 3 in Qatar, Vietnam are set to play in Group D. They will face Kuwaiton on April 17, Malaysia on April 20 and Uzbekistan on April 23.

The tournament is also meant to determine the Asian representatives for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
