Vietnamese showbiz continues to be dogged by stars adopting ever more desperate ways of attracting publicity.

Former engineering teacher of Can Tho University and Mister Vietnam 2010 Tien Doan has recently launched a set of ‘hot’ photos to garner public attention. This is not his first underwear photoshoot that has shocked viewers, but many critics said it is the worst so far, which is merely dirty and has no artistic value.

Before Tien Doan’s photos, the public were shocked by \'hot\' photos featuring male model Ngoc Tinh and singer Ngoc Son.

Singer Ung Hoang Phuc has also stirred the domestic music market with a clip in which he pirated Tættere På Himlen performed by Burhan G. After watching the clip, many viewers clearly recognised.

The film Inferno or Giao Lo Dinh Menh was earlier omitted from the Golden Kite film competition because of “piracy suspicions”. The film, by the overseas Vietnamese director, Victor Vu, attracted controversy because of its close similarity to a US feature Shattered.

Like Ung Hoang Phuc, the director denied the accusations, but viewers were struck by the similarity between local and foreign products.

Some Vietnamese singers have even aped the style of their idols, with Yen Trang and Thu Thuy and particularly, Phuong My copying Lady Gaga’s style in a recent song, whose horrible music has been labeled "diasaster" by online viewers.

These are the way for lazy stars to engineer scandals to increase their fame or save their career from decline.

Meanwhile, state management over star behaviour has remained lax, there are few fines or punishments. Fines or punishments they receive are not strict enough, and press criticism seems to have little effect.
