>> A gloomy start for the showbiz
Veteran composer Duong Thu has blamed sections of the media and younger readers for the proliferation of Vietnamese showbiz scandals that have made front page news.
The Voice was mired in controversy over result fixing
The composer made the comments at a recent forum held in HCM City. Never before have newspaper pages been so full of singers willing to bad mouth their promoters, industry insiders and fellow musicians.
Duong Thu accused the media of fuelling the problem, “A number of newspapers try to deliberately run shocking news to blacken stars in order to attract page views. They’re happy to feature artists wearing skimpy clothes, love affairs and shocking quotes."
He also noted that the media is an accomplice with artists to create scandals and has built a showbiz image which leaves bad impressions on the public.
The composer patronised young music fans claiming they were unselective in their tastes and were only too willing to forgive artists for wearing skimpy outfits on stage, and for producing what she described as ‘music disasters’.
