Supermodel Hoang Yen was fined VND3.5 million (USD167.7) after a recent fashion show in HCM City as her dress was regarded as too revealing by sharp-eyed officials.

Hoang Yen’s costume was said to be too revealing

The municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism also decided to fine the organiser of the event VND7.5 million (USD359.3). However, the name of the organiser has not yet been made available.

At the fashion show on the evening of December 20, Hoang Yen wore a costume that was not included in the list of clothes approved by the department.

The costume was a stylized cloth of traditional kings and emperor with high neck, long sleeves, but open back and bold cutting at the armpit, revealing the side of her bust.

Talking about the incident, Hoang Yen said she felt something was wrong when seeing the costume and did not want to wear it. However, she was then compelled to by the organisers.

“I tried to keep the costume from not revealing too much but failed,” she said.

Director of the department Vo Trong Nam said “This is a violation of art performance regulations.”

According to Nam, this is not the first time that Hoang Yen had been at the centre of such an issue nearly a year ago.

While Hoang Yen and the organiser were fined, the costume’s anonymous designer seems to have walked free from any accountability.
