The year 2013 was quite an active one, fun for some and not so fun for others, including remarkable achievements and scandals.

We have compiled some of the the most scandalous and prominent of these, whether they be humiliating or happy for those involved. What follows is the first in a series chronicling the triumphs and heartache of public life in Vietnam over the last year. 

Celebrity weddings

Last year there were several celebrity weddings involving a slew of popular artists, including that of the singer Dan Truong with a prominent Vietnamese-American businesswoman, Thuy Tien. The event attracted much attention, especially by his many fans. Also, Dan Truong got married at the age of 37 to a wife ten years younger than him.

Just one month later, the singer, Lam Truong, decided to betroth his 23-year old girlfriend, Yen Phuong, after conceding a divorce to his ex-wife in 2011. They had been married seven years.

Lam Truong said he would re-marry in the next two years, when his future wife finished her studies in the US.

Singer Dang Khoi, who worked at the same company as Dan Truong for some time, organised a wedding with his wife Thuy Anh .They had been engaged since 2009 and already had one son in 2012.

Several female other marriages happened this year as well, including that of Mai Khoi with an Australian man, director Ngo Quang Hai with Diep Hong Dao, who was among finalists in Miss Vietnam 2012 beauty contest, and that of supermodel Ngoc Thach and the 39-year old Hanoian businessman, Binh Duong, who earned his wealth in the domestic stock market.

Miss Vietnam World 2007, Ngo Phuong Lan got married to successful British man. And Thuy Trang, first runner-up of Miss Vietnam 2012, also married prominent businessman from HCM City, Dong Cuong.

Finally, during the last few days of 2013, the public was surprised to find out that Thanh Bui, the Vietnamese-Australian singer, got married to his girlfriend, Hue Van.

Other famous celebrity scandals include sex-related scandals and Vietnam disappointed by Miss Vietnam.
