Miss Mekong Delta Vietnam 2015, Nguyen Thi Le Nam Em, has just been selected to represent Vietnam at the Miss Earth 2016 pageant.

Nguyen Thi Le Nam Em was selected as the Vietnamese representative by Helios Media, the new organiser of Miss Earth in Vietnam.

Em is 1.73 metres tall, 50kg and measures 85-60-90. Em was crowned as Miss Mekong Delta in 2015 and has experience competing in beauty pageants from the Miss Vietnam 2014 and Miss Universe Vietnam 2015.

In the past year, Em has spread her presence by appearing in various fashion shows as professional model, released a solo track and featured in a Vietnamese reality show highlighting the bolero, a style of Latin music that became popular in southern Vietnam in the 1950s.

She also joined many charity activities and became ambassador for Mekong Delta Green Tourism Week in 2015.

She said, "This is an honour and enormous happiness to me. But comes with it is responsibility and pressure that I have to overcome. I'll try my best to promote my country, to help people understand more about Vietnam's history and culture and to send out messages to protect the environment and the sea."

Helios Media said Vietnam was returning to Miss Earth after three years, and they had done research and decided on Nguyen Thi Le Nam Em. Official documents have been submitted to the Department of Performing Arts.

Participants from 90 countries will compete for the crown at Miss Earth 2016. The final night will be held in late October in Philippines.

The first Vietnamese participant in Miss Earth in 2003 is Nguyen Ngan Ha who won the title of Miss Creamsilk Fort Ilocandia for best hair. After her, Truc Diem won Miss Fashion title in the Miss Earth 2007 and in 2010, Diem Huong successfully made the top 14.
