Vietnamese ao dai to join in New York Couture Fashion Week
Designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam will introduce his Golden Lotus ao dai collection in the New York Couture Fashion Week 2017. This is also part of the Vietnamese Beauty Programme to promote traditional values.
Le Quang Tu, head of the management board said the programme aimed to honour craft villages, creative and traditional values and integration.
"Everyone has their own way to express patriotism: the artists with their shows, the designers with their clothes and the businesses with their products. We want to connect everything to make it resonate more," he said.
One of the notable events is the appearance of Do Trinh Hoai Nam's golden lotus ao dai collection in the New York Couture Fashion Week 2017. The designs are made by hand for nearly a year on Ha Dong silk, Nam Cao silk, detailed embroideries and especially the gold leaf lotus flowers details.
"Gold leafing and putting gemstones on clothes have been done a lot in the fashion world. I always love something new so I decided to invest and apply the new techniques on ao dai. Nearly 100 artists from various traditional craft villages have contributed to this collection to make it look delicate, creative and traditionally Vietnam," he said.
Another notable event related to ao dai in the Vietnamese Beauty Programme in October is the giving of ao dais to Vietnamese mothers to promote the beauty of Vietnamese women and filial respect.
It is estimated that about 10,000 artists and business-people will participate in the programme.
