Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, director of the Oc Eo Cultural Heritage’s Management Board, Nguyen Huu Gieng, revealed that the exhibits were collected from 17 cities and provinces across the southern region, such as An Giang, Dong Thap, Kien Giang, Binh Duong, and Tay Ninh province, as well as objects from the collection at Ho Chi Minh City History Museum.

"The works on display are arranged into four major topics, featuring ceramic objects that were used as daily utensils, or in agricultural production, decoration and architecture, and in religious practices," Gieng said, adding that they all represent the rich Oc Eo cultures, which flourished between the first and seventh centuries.

The Oc Eo culture formed and developed in the Mekong Delta region and some other southern areas. Hosted by the Phu Nam Kingdom, the Oc Eo culture is one of three influential cultures, along with Dong Son (700BC-AD100) and Sa Huynh (1,000-200BC), to have had an impact on Vietnam and other countries.

The exhibition is open free from September 29 to October 30.
