Tran Viet Van, a photojournalist from Lao Dong (Labour) Newspaper, won the first prize of the contest’s Street Food category with the work Enjoying. The photo was taken in Hoi An old town, a popular tourist destination in the central province of Quang Nam. Hoi An, recognised by UNESCO as world cultural heritage site, is also famous for street food. Four young girls were passionately eating soup made the author feel that life is lovely even though the world is suffering a pandemic.

Meanwhile, photographer Nguyen Huu Thong from the northern province of Bac Giang achieved the first prize in the Food on the Table category with a work entitled Breakfast at the Weekly Market. It shows people enjoying their Pho for breakfast at a local market in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai.

Tran Viet Van’s other work named Along the Road was also shortlisted in the contest. Earlier in 2021, his photo Breakfast of the Butcher taken at Ben Thanh Market in HCM City bagged third prize in the competition.
Van has won more than 80 international photography prizes.
The Pink Lady Food Photographer of The Year 2021 competition attracted thousands of photos. The contest is open to professional and non-professional, old and young, the awards celebrate food photography and film from around the world.
Since 2011, over 70,000 images and films have been submitted from over 77 countries.
